John Roth Roast and Toast Dinner

On Tuesday, January 29th, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel the Plumbing, Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors Association will honor City of Houston Chief Plumbing Inspector with a special Roast and Toast.

Having spent years roasting and toasting industry contractors he will receive back what he is best known for, friendship, humor, a ready smile and a warm disposition. Chairing this magnanimous event will be PAMCA’s Stanley Briers. At the meeting it will be unveiled who taught whom plumbing John or Stanley, as both contend that they taught each other everything they know about the craft.

The dinner will begin with a social hour at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 7:00 p.m.

Stanley Briers has been holding “try outs” for those to serve on the august panel who contribute to John’s accolades or roasting. His selection committee includes old timers, new timers, current contractors and those out of business but still have plumbing running in their blood. Hundreds have applied for this event as a roaster or toaster, but only the select, the dynamic, the articulate or the bombastically synergistic will be among chosen few selected to be at the table with our friend John. Applications have come from as far as the Far East, the Middle East, Close East and the East Coast, south of the border, north of the border and on the border.

The dinner will be $25.00 per person and include time for people to tell “John what they really think,” or to put it another way, to offer our friend the best in retirement.

Matt Raney, All In One Nursery, will be there for a book premier of his new book “On The Third Day” which is rated the best book on Houston flowers and shrubs. He will sign copies especially for our membership at this debut. Fleetmatics USA and ProSource Management will also have a table at the event.

Special One Time Feng Shui Program

On Tuesday, June 27th, PAMCA will hold a special meeting with nationally know Feng Shui expert Trisha Keel. Ms. Keel teaches the techniques of Feng Shui to architects for design of single family houses and businesses. Feng Shui deals with energy flow and maximizing it in a home or office.

Feng Shui
Feng Shui is the study of energy to see how they can affect the lives of people. To achieve the best results, Feng Shui knowledge should be applied to city planning, architecture, interior decoration and landscaping.

People who have performed a variety of feng shui fixes to their homes have other ways to benefit that also help the world.

Most contemporary forms of pavement create heat islands and contribute to global warming. They reflect or absorb heat according to the mix that is used to make them, and that is what creates the problem.

You can help minimize your contributions to global warming, drop the temperature around your house more than 10 degrees Fahrenheit, and beautify your home at the same time — all by replacing your polluting driveway with a green one.

Feng shui or fengshui is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to attempt to achieve harmony with the environment that has its origins from Taoism. The practice is estimated to be more than three thousand years old.

Proper Feng Shui is a set of general guidelines for the creation of beautiful architecture and comfortable interior decoration not superstition as it has become for some.

"Feng shui" literally means "wind water" in Chinese. The same Chinese term is also used in Japan and Korea, where it denotes the same meaning and is called fūsui in Japan and pung-su in Korea.

Traditional ("classical") feng shui is a Chinese esoteric discipline that addresses the design and layout of cities, villages, dwellings, and buildings in order to harness beneficial qi from one's surroundings. Feng Shui addresses the Yang aspect (living) but can also be applied to the Yin aspect — as seen in the careful construction of graves and tombs. Rules for yang dwellings differ from those applied to "yin houses" (houses of the dead

Trisha Keel has been the Editor of PAMCA Connection for the past eight years and we will be the only publication she will continue to produce.

This special night will be one spouses will enjoy as well as business owners. As this field evolves more and more houses will be designed utilizing this methodology, and all repair contractors will be expected to treat these homes with respect and capability of following the principles of Feng Shui.

The meeting will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with a social hour at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 7:00 p.m. Reservations are required and are $25.00 per person.

May meeting

PAMCA Special Workshop May 16th

Part I:  Cable and Utility Line Identification

Part II: Change In Tradesman License Discussion

The association will hold a special two-part workshop on Tuesday, May 16th, at the Golden Corral, Highway 290 and Hollister beginning at 12:00 Noon.

Part I will be chaired by Teresa Dinning, The Aggie Plumber, to discuss the issue of utility and cable line identification and the unwillingness and difficulties some contractors are having with these companies and current pending lawsuits. Serving on the panel for this issue will be Stan Walton, Spartan Tool, a long time instructor at Texas A & M on utility and cable identification; and Tom Lytle of Vermeer Equipment of Texas who deals with the issue everyday.

Part II will be Co-chaired by Randy Czaplewski of Frank’s Plumbing and Bobby Schmidt of Commercial Boiler. The topic will be to discuss two current industry problems: First, how do we attract more people into the trade; and secondly, once in the trade either shorting the time for them to take their tradesmen license test from two years of experience to something less then that; or creating a Tradesman License A and Tradesman License B. The B License would be for limited residential house repairs and the applicant would be able to take the test when they were ready, with a much lessened time frame.

Reservations are required because of limited seating.
